Rosé is the new black

02 February 2023

As flavored vodka and gin continue to trend, it’s time for flavored tequila to step into the spotlight.

As one of the market’s latest mover, Neurita Tequila introduces Neurita Rosa, their flagship tequila blend infused with raspberry, strawberry, and pomegranate flavors. This new flavor offers a unique aromatic palette for mixology and appeals to a more feminine demographic. According to the brand’s founder, Lucy Smith, the result is « exciting » and far from the « classic and serious tequilas. » Neurita Rosa retails for approximately 35€.

The flavored tequila market has now seen an influx of new entrants, with « Rosa » flavor emerging as a top trend. To differentiate themselves from the competition, producers are employing a variety of techniques to achieve the light pink hue and unique taste, such as adding berries like Neurita, using ex-red or ex-rosé barrel finishes (Calirosa Tequila, Inspiro Tequila, LLC), or extracting color from mature agave plants (Casa Rica). The allure of Rosé extends from the towering heights of Jalisco to its birthplace in South of France. In Provence, as the clock strikes 6 PM, it’s time for aperitifs and, of course, time for Rosé. 06 Vodka Rosé, named after the department number of Alpes Maritimes, perfectly captures this culture as it is produced with genuine organic Rosé de Provence. The brand drew inspiration from the design aesthetics of both Tequila Don Julio 1942 and world renowned Crus Classés de Provence and added some features such as a label at the bottom, transparent glass that lets the beautiful pale pink color be seen and a slim shape. The distillery, Comte de Grasse, is situated in an old perfume factory in the heart of Grasse, the world’s perfume capital.

Comte de Grasse uses a process called Active Wine Extraction to obtain the aromatic components from the grape skins, resulting in the purest fragrances and naturally pigmenting the liquor. By using low temperature and low pressure extraction techniques, the aromas concentrate, giving the vodka a unique and appealing profile. 06 Vodka Rosé is positioned as a super premium product with a retail price of approximately 45€.

It is yet to be determined if the brand will receive positive feedback from consumers and if the Active Wine Extraction process will gain popularity and inspire the creation of more Rosé distillers. For now, 06 Vodka stands alone in this uncharted market.
